You Don’t Need More Information: Why You’re Still Stuck (And How to Finally Change)
May 19, 2026Why do so many people struggle to change their eating habits, lose weight, or maintain healthy behaviors—even when they know exactly what to do?
According to Eliza Kingsford, the answer is not a lack of willpower or motivation. It is the nervous system.
In this article, Eliza Kingsford, a psychotherapist, nervous system expert, and weight loss specialist, explains the three levels of transformation: information, knowledge, and embodiment. She explores why traditional approaches to weight loss and behavior change often fail, and how nervous-system-based healing can help create lasting, sustainable transformation.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in cycles of emotional eating, inconsistency, self-sabotage, or “knowing better but not doing better,” this framework offers a science-backed explanation for why change can feel so difficult and what actually creates lasting results.
Information does not create transformation.
You don’t have an information problem. You have an embodiment problem. Let that land for a second. Because if you’re anything like the women I work with, you’ve already done everything “right.”
You’ve read the books.
Listened to the podcasts.
Bought the programs.
And yet… nothing actually changes. So you sit there thinking, what is wrong with me? Why don’t I feel any better? Here’s the truth that most people will never tell you: Information does not create transformation.
And if you don’t understand why, you will stay stuck in the exact same cycle no matter how much you learn.
The Lie That’s Keeping You Stuck
We are living in a world that is constantly whispering one thing to you: You’re just one more piece of information away from finally getting it. One more strategy. One more framework. One more “this is the thing that will fix everything.” But what I see inside my programs tells a very different story.
Women come in with:
- Bookshelves full of diet books
- Years of therapy
- Deep intellectual understanding of their patterns
- A lifetime of “knowing what to do”
And still feeling completely out of control around food, their body, and their life. Sound familiar? One woman said it perfectly before starting:
“I know what to do… but I can’t seem to actually do it.”
Another shared:
“It feels like a light switch I can’t reach.”
This is the gap no one talks about.
The Three Levels of Change (That Change Everything)
If you want real transformation, you need to understand this: There are three levels to change when it comes to the information you take in..
-
Level One - Information
This is where most people live. Information is just data. Examples of information are:
- Tips
- Tactics
- Advice
- Content
- Data
- Stories
- Infographics
- Books
- Courses
It’s the “what.” And your brain actually loves this stage. You get a little dopamine hit. You feel inspired. You think, this is it! The information I was missing! But here’s the problem: Your brain is designed to delete what you don’t use. So you read something. Get excited. Do nothing with it. And your brain literally prunes it away like taking out the trash..
Gone.
That’s why you can feel like you’re constantly learning… but never changing.
-
Level Two - Knowledge
This is where information becomes personal. Now we’re asking:
- Why does this matter to me?
- How does this apply to my life?
- Do I actually believe this is true?
This is where discernment comes in. Because not all information deserves to become knowledge. And this matters more than ever right now. We are in an era where information is infinite. And a lot of it is wrong. So if you are not filtering what you consume, you are building your life on shaky ground.
Information becomes knowledge when it is meaningful to us personally. For example, if you read a sign about the predatory habits of mountain lions and you live in Florida you might think…. “interesting information”.
But if you happen to live in Boulder Colorado, you might now think “ok, I need to retain this important piece of knowledge!” because it’s relevant and important to you personally. Now, more than ever we should be consuming less information and more knowledge, this helps us remain more focused and less overwhelmed.
But even knowledge is not enough to create change.
-
Level Three - Embodiment
This is the level that changes everything. Embodiment is when something becomes a felt experience in your body. Not something you understand with your mind. Something you experience in your body.
Let me say that again: Embodiment is not cognitive. It is nervous system based.
You don’t think your way into it. You feel your way into it. And this is exactly why so many people stay stuck. Because they are trying to think their way into change.
Why Nothing Changes (Even When You Know Better)
You can know everything about healthy eating and still binge. You can understand your trauma and still feel hijacked. You can intellectually believe you’re worthy and still treat yourself like you’re not. Because your nervous system is still familiar with what you DON’T want, not what you DO want. And your nervous system always wins.
What Happens When You Finally Shift Into Embodiment
This is where things get really interesting. Because when women move into embodiment, the results are not subtle and they don’t feel shaky and unreliable. They are undeniable. And they feel transformative.
One client shared:
“I feel free. The food obsession is just….gone. This is life changing for me.”
Another said:
“I came in to fix my relationship with food… and, as it turns out, I learned how to live.”
And this one might be my favorite: “Even if I didn’t lose a pound, feeling this peace in my body would have been worth it.”
Read that again. Because that is The Shift. And ironically? That’s when the weight starts to drop. Almost effortlessly.
The Real Problem (And the Real Solution)
The problem is not that you don’t know enough. The problem is that you’ve been taught to stop at information. You’ve been conditioned to believe that learning equals changing. It doesn’t.
Transformation happens when:
- You stop chasing more information
- You start integrating what you already know
- You create safety in your body to actually live it
Because the life you want is not on the other side of more content. It’s on the other side of embodiment.
A Different Way to Look at This
Think of it like building a house. Information is the materials, knowledge is the blueprint, embodiment is actually moving into your new home. Most people are walking around with piles of materials wondering why they don’t have a home.
The Most Important Thing to Understand - Transformation is not cognitive, it’s not in your mind. It is nervous system based, it’s in your body.
You cannot think your way into a different life. You have to feel safe enough to live it.
This is why:
- You can know how to eat healthy and still overeat
- You can understand your patterns and still repeat them
- You can believe something logically and still not act on it
Because your nervous system hasn’t caught up. And until it does, nothing changes.
